Barry Mayfield brings more than 30 years public relations and government affairs experience.  Having worked in both the executive and judicial branches of state government for nearly a decade, he transitioned to the electric utility industry.  He recently retired from East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc., after serving as Vice President of Strategic Planning/External Affairs.

His strengths include an understanding of the strategic planning process, the necessity of local ownership, and developing attainable goals.  Barry’s years representing his company in Frankfort honed his communications skills, especially the ability to relate with different audiences and personalities.

Having worked in the rural electric cooperative industry, Barry appreciates the necessity of developing strong communities which recognize their shared assets and ability to target business and industry suited for their region’s needs.

Barry is a member of the Kentucky Blood Center Board of Directors, the Bluegrass Tomorrow Board of Trustees and the Commerce Lexington Regional Policy Group.  He is immediate past Acting President of the Southeastern Federal Power Customers, Inc., and a former member of the Clark Regional Medical Center Board of Directors.  Barry is a University of Kentucky alumnus. He and his wife reside in Lexington and are members of First United Methodist Church.
